Overview

The Court has tentatively approved the Settlement intended to provide Class Members with unpaid interest on property tax refunds and pre-judgment interest on the unpaid interest. You have legal rights and options that you may exercise before the Court considers whether it will grant final approval of the proposed Settlement at the “Fairness Hearing.” The Fairness Hearing is to decide whether the proposed Settlement is fair, reasonable, and provides adequate compensation and benefits to the members of the Class.

In this lawsuit, the plaintiffs alleged that the County of Los Angeles failed to pay interest on property tax refunds as required by law, and also owed pre-judgment interest on the interest which it failed to pay at the time of the refund. Plaintiffs also claimed that the County was required to give notice to taxpayers of their right to claim a refund. The County of Los Angeles denied the allegations in the lawsuit.
